After taking the nearest boat to Seacrest, Zane had spent many days just wandering, getting thrown out of bars, running from police, and causing general mayhem. Eventually, he wandered to Seaside village, a small little town--one he couldn't bear to be in too long, as it reminded him of Lynn--and heard from someone that he could get a pokemon at the lab "over yonder".
Now, one might wonder why he didn't make a beeline for the Team Diamond laboratory--but Zane isn't one for gangs. At least, not one that isn't his. He also has a certain respect for pokemon, and sees them more as fighting partners than as tools. He's not the nicest person, true, and is easily a dangerous person to be around... but Team Diamon, Rocket--whatever--were not for him.
He wasn't wearing his jacket today, as it was more than a little warm out; it was, however, stuffed in a faded grey backpack he had slung over one shoulder. He was wearing his cubone-skull shirt, and, as usual, a pair of jeans, his boots, and--not as normal--a pair of sunglasses.
He sauntered up to the lab's front steps--he was in no hurry. He walked with something of a swagger (or was that a stagger?), and, to the trained eye, one could see he was a little intoxicated. He raised a battle-scarred fist and knocked twice, then leaned indolently against the door-frame.

OoC: Whoo, using a different character this time xDDDD
BiC: A loud CRASH! came from inside the lab and the whole building seemed to shudder with the obvious impact of something rather large. "Song! Song, look what you did! Oh, Professor Aspen's going to kill me!" a rather distressed voice screeched from inside. Apparently, whoever it was, didn't hear the knock on the door, which was really a sort of invite for Zane to just come in by himself.
Inside, a bookcase, one of the many that divided the one rather large room into two smaller ones, the back one being used for research, was on its side. Books were scattered everywhere and it looked like a couple of the framed drawings that covered the walls had been knocked down as well. It looked like utter chaos really, the whole lobby was pretty much a wreck. And, in the middle of it all, was a single Chatot, which was sqauwking away happily.
"Oh! You're going to cost me my job Song!" a young woman cried, grabbing at her bluish-green, almost turqoise, hair as she looked around. her half-moon glasses were hanging off one of her ears, though she didn't seem to notice. Her eyes, wide with dismay, were the same shade as her hair color, and they were currently zipping around the lab, the look in them slowly rising to that of panic.
"Chatot, chatot, chatot!" the Chatot replied cheerfully, fluttering its colorful wings. It didn't seem to realize what it did, somehow knocking over the heavy bookcase, was wrong, and rather, he was quite proud of himself.
"Oh dear..." the woman continued looking around the room, her white lab coat half falling off her shoulders. Her jeans and white t-shirt, which had a musical note on it, were covered with what looked like coffee, probably another thing caused by the falling bookcase. really, the normally neat and organized lab was a complete disaster. Upon hearing the commotion inside, Zane shoved open the door--nearly tripped over the slight ledge there--and lurched inside.
He laughed for a brief second, before catching himself, knowing that the situation was probably only funny to him. Really, the place was a wreck--had that Chatot knocked over that bookcase? Impressive. He watched the scene with an apprehensive look flickering across his face, before decided to scowl at the woman's back. Why hadn't she hurried to open the door for him? He was important, darn it!
"'Scuse me," he said, his normally serious sort of accent blurred a bit by the drink, "You need help with that? Prob'ly too heavy for you."
For some reason or another, Zane was under the impression he had to help out to attain a pokemon--perhaps the only reason he'd offered up his services. Not that he'd refuse to help if asked... He just didn't like offering to be nice. That wasn't his thing, not anymore. Got Lynn killed last time... Tears began to well up in his eyes, but he expertly fought them back. He was getting good at not showing emotion.

The woman jumped at his voice, dropping the books she had started picking up. "Oh! By Mew and the other legends! I'm so sorry I must not have heard you knock! Again, very sorry!" she actually bowed repeatedly, her hands clasped in front of her. Her glasses ended up falling completely off as she did so and got lost in the mess of books. "Oh dear! Oh deary me!"
"Chatot! Cha! Chatot tot Chatot!" the Chatot seemed to have started laughing at the aide, using its colorful wings as hands to hold its feathered belly. It knew that its trainer was mad at it, but it still found how she reacted to the newcomer to be hilarious.
The aide glared at the bird and then glanced back at the newcomer as she started picking up a few books, looking for her glasses as she did so. "Yes, I'd appreciate the help..." she nodded slightly, pushed a few strands of her hair back behind her ears. "Hopefully Morwen won't return for a while yet, otherwise I'm probably as good as fired... Song!" As she said the name she sent a glare at the bird, looking rather furious.

He grinned at the Chatot in his signature wolfish smile and strode forward--with only one stumble to speak of. "'E's a nice one, eh," Zane commented, standing with his feet at what would have been the top of the bookshelf.
He slipped his hands under the edge and lifted. Even with half the books still in it, it seemed to be easy for the young man-- until he dropped it on his toes. Teeth bared in a rather nasty-looking grimace, Zane let loose a rather animal sort of cry: A howl garbled together with something of a roar...
That done, he gave the aide a slight smile, and, taking a firmer grip on the top shelf-- lifted it back into a standing position. Panting slightly, he glanced down at his feet. "I may have broken a toe," he muttered, "Or at least fractured it. Dang*, that hurts... Eh, can I get a Pokemon here?"

The aide seemed rather amazed, at least, she was standing there staring with her ponytail in her hand the whole time Zane had been lifting the bookshelf up. She suddenly shook her head, as if to bring herself back to reality. "A Pokemon? Oh! Yes yes, that is what this lab is for isn't it? Well, at least one of the reasons this lab is here... oh dear, if only Kiana was here, things would be so much easier..." She seemed to have found her glasses amind the books that were still on the ground and put them back on. "I'm going to have to alphabetize these all or the professor's going to know something's happened... oh dear..."
Seeing his owner was still rather preoccupied with what was going on, the Chatot sighed and fluttered over to a shelf. Looking at the Pokeballs that sat there carefully, he then kicked a few choice ones off, releasing the Pokemon inside. There were seven that appeared.
The first resembled an orange lizard that stood on two legs and had a flame-tipped tail, a fire type Charmander from the Kanto region.
The second was a pale blue turtle that also stood on two legs. It had a brown shell and a curled tail poked out from beneath it. The water type Squirtle from Kanto.
The third was a bluish-green dinosaur-type Pokemon with darker spots adorning its body. A large green flower bud seemed to be sprouting from its back and it looked around in slight suprise at the mess. The grass type Bulbasaur from the Kanto region.
The fourth was a brown and beige bird with a rather sharp looking orange beak and claws. It fluttered its wings, its beady black eyes darting this way and that around the lab in a somewhat cautious before it pecked at the tiled floor. The normal and flying type Pidgey from the Kanto region.
Now, that last three were unique from the others, for they had never been seen by anyone that didn't come to the Lanorae region. The first was a lion cub, and orange one at that, with bright eyes and a yellow streak down its sides along with yellow paws. A flame burned merrily on the tip of its tail, as it was the fire type Firecub.
The second on these three looked like a slender blue serpent with flippers that it used to support itself. Its head was crowned with white fins and a bluish-green streak shot down the middle of its snout, right between its pupiless eyes. It was the water type Seaward.
And the final one looked like a small raptor-type dinosaur with small front claws but powerful hind legs. Two horns seemed to crown its head and as it yawned small fangs were quite obvious in its jaws. The grass type Iglora.
"Chatot! Pick one! Chatot! Chatot! New partner! Chatot!" Song squawked, apparently taking charge with his ability to imitate phrases used by humans. "Choose wisely! Chatot!" He cocked his head to the side, awaiting Zane's choice from up on the shelf where the Pokeballs had sat.

Zane grinned at the aide's frantic reactions, and wondered, for a moment, if she was always this way. He thought she probably was. "Aww, it's not that bad," he said, in response to her fretting, his speech still a little slurred.
Zane watched as each pokemon was released. He recognized the first four, of course-- but the next three were obviously new tot he Lanorae region. Now, Zane wasn't one to ask too many questions, and so focused on the first one that caught his attention-- the last one released.
"That one," he said, pointing to the Iglora, "What type is it?" That was, perhaps, the only question he deemed important enough to ask about his to-be partner: He had a certain love for ice- and poison-types, and he wanted to know if, perhaps, this beast was part poison. If it wasn't... well, he'd probably still take it. It looked like a good companion.

"Huh?" the aide seemed to not have heard the question but she followed to where Zane was pointing and seemed to have figured it out for herself. "Oh! Oh oh oh! That's Iglora, a grass type, and quite the fast little guys they are, they're good jumpers as well. Though, they and their evolved forms are rather protective over nature. We've had a few problems with someone's Terrador, Iglora's final stage, attacking them because they accidently burned down a tree..."
Song, the aide's Chatot, fluttered over to the woman's shoulder and gave her a sharp peck on the head. "Get it together Lillian! Chatot! Chatot! Clean up Lillian! Chatot!"
Th aide, who's name was apparently Lillian, clenched her fists. "You aren't my mother Song! Who are you to boss me around, anyway, you should be cleaning seeing you're the one that knocked the bookcase over in the first place!" she continued muttering beneath her breath, stooping down to pick up a few more of the thick volumes and shoving them back on their shelves. She would re-alphabetize them later...
"Chatot tot tot chatot!" Song seemed to be laughing at his owner again and fluttered up onto another bookcase. Luckily, he just sat there and didn't try to knock this one over. One bookcase meant that Lillian didn't have to worry about what book went on which shelf, two would mean she'd have to figure that out as well.

Iglora, eh? Over-protective beasties? Yeah--that's cool. He glanced over the line of pokemon once more, his eye--once more--being drawn back to the Iglora. So it wasn't a poison type-- or an ice-type, for that matter, but if his attention kept coming back to it... Perhaps it would be best to go with his gut feeling?
He watched the Chatot with a look of increasing anger-- it seemed its repetitive cawing and imitations of the human voice were getting on his nerves. Through clenched teeth, and with his fists now shoved in his pockets, he addressed the aide: "I'll have that one. The Iglora."
All of a sudden, he wanted to get out of here. He didn't know what it was that irritated him so-- perhaps a residue of the amount of drink he had consumed, or some ghost of his former life-- but it surely bothered him, and he made no effort to mask his displeasure at being kept any longer than he needed to be. His expression, once a neutral, mildly bemused one, had morphed into something darker; reflecting, perhaps, the depths of his bitterness at the world.

The blue haired woman seemed to pale slightly at Zane's sudden change in personality. "Uh, right, right!" she said hurridly, pushing her glasses up her nose and quickly grabbing the Iglora's Pokeball from where it was on the floor. She recalled the small dinosaur-like grass type and then hurried over and grabbed a black backpack from a shelf.
"This is the trainer survival pack we hand out to all new trainers," Lillian said, rather hurridly really as if she wanted Zane out of the lab as soon as possible now. She slipped the Iglora's Pokeball into the pack and held it out for him to take. "It should contain more than enough items to get you to Purity Valley, and you can stock up there if you need to. Now, if you'll excuse me I need to finish cleaning up."
Song whistled loudly and fluttered over to another bookcase, which happened to house a small glode of the world. He sat atop this, whistling shrilly and fluttering his wings with a few loud squawks.
