" ... I'll show them. I'll prove to them I'm the better son. "
The hateful thoughts repeated themselves over and over within the male's mind as he moved through Seaside Village. Bah, did he ever hate his parents. Not just his parents, he hated his little brother too. They were all so disrespectful and selfish - it disgusted the boy. Well, he fit that description too, but of course, that didn't matter to him. It didn't have to matter anymore. As far as he cared, he had no relations to them anymore.
He was in a new region now, looking forward to beginning a new Pokemon journey, and to ease his mind off the constant pain of his memories back at home. The only Pokemon he really had contact with was an elderly Jolteon that belonged to the family, and a Seviper that changed his life forever. Originally he never had any ambitions to become a Pokemon trainer, but he needed a Pokemon for protection if he was going to leave home.
As he approached Professor Aspen's Lab, the options as to which Pokemon he could begin with came into mind. Wasn't it these Pokemon native to this land? He didn't research much about them, so he had no idea which one he would choose.
The male reached the doorstep of the building and took in a long and deep breath. Well, he could kiss his old cruddy life goodbye, and start out new and fresh. Forming his left hand into a fist, the male knocked it against the door a few times, then took a step back, expecting someone to shortly answer.
Ah, James Farr had been looking forward to this day for awhile.

The door was opened almost immediately after the knock. Apparently someone had been in the main lobby at the time an therefore had heard the noise and had replied as soon as possible. The someone that opened the door was none other than a tall, young-looking woman with ebony black hair which was today pulled back in a long braid that huing down to around her waist. She smiled cheerfully, her icy blue eyes twinkling at the newcomer as she opened the door a bit wider and stepped off to the side.
"Come in, come in, no need for you to stand out there in that heat," she continued smiling good naturedly, holding the door open for James. My guess is you're here for a Pokemon? Well then, I'm Professor Aspen, but feel free to call me Morwen. I don't like all those formalities much..."
She said she was a professor but today she didn't exactly look it. For one thing, she wore no lab coat, rather it was hanging on the back of her computer chair, which stood behind her desk. And for another, her pale blue tank top and blue jeans, which were slowly ripping at her left knee, looked anything but formal.
A small Riolu was sitting in front of the fan in a corner of the lab, and she squeaked happily, waving one of her small paws at the newcomer as she rose to her feet. Most of the lab walls seemed to have been overcome with photographic-like drawings which were all signed by the professor herself. Originally, it seemed that the lab had only been one, very large room but it was now seperated into a lobby and research area by a row of bookcases, which only opened up once towards the middle of the row to allow passage into the back.
"So, do you have an idea of what you want? Or do you wish to see all the Pokemon we have available at the present moment?" Professor Aspen asked. Even though she didn't look exactly formal, she was definately polite. Not quite as polite as she would bow to everyone she saw, but she was pretty close.
"Rio! Ri rio!" the Riolu called cheerfully, scampering over and then hopping onto the professor's shoulder. Apparently, the small fighting type belonged to Morwen, as it was now nuzzling her cheek happily.

James looked mildly surprised when someone almost immediately answered his knock. Hey, he liked this fast service! However, even more surprise covered his face when he saw that the person who greeted him didn't look anything like a Professor. Okay, wait a second. Were normal people running this place or something?
Hearing the woman introduce herself, James changed his mind about her being an average person. Ah, she just wasn't wearing her lab coat. Fair enough, he wouldn't expect himself to wear a coat like that all the time anyways.
" Yes, I'm here for a Pokemon, Morwen. "
James responded to her question as he took a couple of steps into the building. He couldn't help but grin as a cool and air conditioned feeling surrounded him. It was definitely much nicer in here than out there in that heat.
Seeing the Riolu wave to him, James only gave it a slight scrunch of his nose. He wasn't exactly the most social person, and he wasn't one to be friendly or polite either. He never learned these values or manners; no one really gave up their time to teach these to him.
" Right, I heard there were starting Pokemon that were native to this region here. What are they? "
James questioned, watching as the Riolu climbed up to the Professor's shoulder and nuzzled her affectionately. The male looked completely unamused, more focused on what his choices were about to be. Honestly, he just wanted a Pokemon, and to get out of here.

"Oh, the Lanorae starters? Very well," Professor Aspen gave James a slight smile and then turned to her right. "Kiana, Iglora, Firecub, and Seaward if you please?"
It had appeared she had been speaking to thin air, but a moment later a Pokemon materialized beside her. It had a white body and bright amber eyes. Its arms seemed to be coming down from just behind its jaw rather than its torso and two ice crystals decorated its skull. A Froslass.
Of course m'lady... the Pokemon said smoothly, using telepathy, before turning her head to a shelf. Three Pokeballs were levitated off of it. Suddenly all three burst open, revealing the Pokemon inside.
The first one resembled a kind of large cat with bright green eyes. It had a mostly orange body though its paws and the streaks along its sides were a yellowish tan, as were the very tips of its ears. It growled playfully and lashed a long tail that ended with a fiery tip, small embers flying from it as the Pokemon seemed to wag its tail.
The second Pokemon really resembled some sort of eel or serpent more than anything. It supported its upper body upon two large fins which were tipped with a dark turqoise color. Most of its body was a dark blue, and its tail ended with lighter colored, semi-translucent fins. White, frill-like ears dominated its head and streaking down right between its bluish, pupiless eyes was a dash of turqoise.
The final Pokemon was a creature of beige and green that resembled a prehistoric raptor. Its forearms were rather small but its hind legs seemed to be built powerfully and they were very muscular. Out of the back of its rather beak-like head were green tipped horns, and its ruby eyes were darting from here to there, looking around the lab.
Professor Aspen gestured to each one in turn, saying their names as she did so. "The lion cub is called Firecub and is a fire type, the sea serpent-like Pokemon is Seaward and it's a water type, and the dinosaur Pokemon is Iglora, a grass type." she explained. "Would you like more information on any of them?"
"Rio! Rio lu lu!" the Riolu called happily to the three Pokemon, waving at them and cocking her head cutely. The Seaward tried to wave back but it flopped over onto its side seeing when it raised its flipper it had no support to hold it straight.

James listened to the names that Professor Aspen spoke and instantly recognized them. Well, with the exception of Kiana. He assumed that was the name of someone rather than the species of a Pokemon.
Surely enough, a Froslass came when the Professor said its name. He had never seen a Pokemon like it before, which seemed to fascinate him for a few moments. However, that feeling quickly vanished, not letting himself get carried away with a more friendly attitude.
Seeing the three Pokemon burst out of their Pokeballs before him, James began to make mental notes of them. Hey, he was about to make a very important decision, so he really needed to think on it.
Looking at the Firecub, the idea of flames blazing on the Pokemon's tail wasn't all that appealing. He didn't want any of his clothes catching on fire now. He eyed the Iglora, and felt a bit of interest towards the Grass Pokemon. However, that Pokemon looked stubbron like James was, and he felt they wouldn't mix well.
Finally, James observed the Seaward and smirked a bit. Ah, this Pokemon looked good. Yea, maybe it seemed to be the most cheery of the bunch, and maybe even a bit ditzy, but that didn't really bother James. That Pokemon reminded him a bit of his old Jolteon. Back at home, his Jolteon was caring, cheerful, and occasionally clumsy on his feet. However, he always looked after James when his parents could care less about him.
" Nah, it's alright. I don't need anymore information. I've already decided I want the Seaward. "
James answered in a confident tone. He would learn what this Pokemon was like as he travelled around anyways. Yep, he was sure he would be satisfied with this Seaward as his starting Pokemon.

Professor Aspen nodded slightly and gently took the Seaward's Pokeball, which was still hovering in the air thanks to Kiana, and recalled it. "They get to be powerful fighters when they evolve, especially in the sea terrains, you made a fine choice," she commented. "Kiana, could you please get one of the survival packs?"
Of course m'lady... the Froslass nodded smoothly and shifted her attention towards the opening in the bookcases that lead to the back rooms. A green backpack quickly hovered out and then paused in front of Morwen, who gently took it from the air.
Placing the Seaward's Pokeball among the many other items that were enclosed within the pack, the professor then held it out for James to take. "Good luck, I hope to one day see you at the League championship," she smiled slightly. It was how she bid all the trainers farewell that visited her, but she felt that it summed up everything into one phrase.
Name: -Your Choice- Gender: -Your Choice- Level: 5 Attacks: Tackle, Growl, Tail Whip Personality: -Your Choice- Experience Points: 0 Hold Item: None
Empty Pokeball x5 Potion x6 Antidote x4 Paralyze Heal x4 Lanorae Region Map Lanorae PokeDex 1000£
"Ri rio lu riolu!" Professor Aspen's Riolu waved at James cheerfully before suddenly hopping onto Kiana's back. The Froslass seemed to smile slightly. Apparently there was some sort of sisterly bond between the two.
You may now move on to Route One - High Prarie

" Awesome, thanks. "
James spoke simply as the Seaward was recalled into the Pokeball with Kiana's help. The male seemed pleased with the fact that his new Pokemon would grow into a powerful fighter once it evolved. Ha, take that, parents!
Watching the green backpack float into Morwen's hands amused James. Was it the doing of that Froslass? Ah, it had to be. The male didn't know much about the species, but he made note that he'd be interested in finding one someday.
" League championship? You bet I'll be there. "
James assured, taking the bag that was full of items and his Seaward's Pokeball, and swung it over his backpack. He smiled a bit sincerely as he turned to leave, actually feeling a genuine happiness for a moment, but as soon as he turned around, that normal serious expression returned. Bah, he just wanted to get out of here.
With a simple wave of his hand to the Professor, her Riolu, and her Froslass, James made a rather quick departure. Time was a wastin', and he needed to get out there and train.
