It was a small town. It was on the coast of the sea.

And Yorokobi hated those things.

He would also be seated on the boat and look depressed, but the excitement overtook all of those things. He was finally on his own journey, away from all the people who bullied him, away from the region he called home for fourteen years.

"We've reached our destination! Welcome to Lanorae!" somebody yelled over the megaphone, which Yorokobi's ear just happened to be next to.

"Ouch..." he mumbled, as he grabbed his bag and got off the boat.

The first thing that greeted him was falling off the dock and face first into the sand of the beach. Yorokobi got back up, rubbed the sand off his face, and boldly walked towards the lab, which was quite obviously a lab from its design.

His arm somehow lifted itself up, and his fist gave three sharp knocks on the door, then dropped almost as fast as it rose. The only thing Yorokobi could think of rather than operating his own body was:

Will this be the beginning of an adventure, or the start of a failure?

The door was almost immediately answered by a young-looking woman, who's ebony hair was today pulled up in a rather fancy style, her curled locks falling about her face and rimming it in a frame of silky black. Her bright, icy blue eyes were contrasted beautifully, and seemed to twinkle as she smiled. "Hello there, please do come in," she stepped aside to allow Yorokobi passage into the labratory, her smile never leaving her face.

The inside of the lab was very organized and clean looking, the tiled floor spotless. There didn't seem to be a trace of dust in the air. The main lab seemed to consist of one, main lab, however a row of filled bookcases seperated it into two smaller areas. There was an opening that lead towards the back but, quite obviously, that was most likely off-limits for people that didn't work here.

The 'lobby' as it seemed to be was well decorated, the walls adorned with photographic-like sketches that were all drawn by the professor herself, or at least that's what the signatures on them implied. Two deep maroon couches were seated around a small, glass topped coffee table in one corner, and in another stood a computer desk with a rotating chair seated behind it.

"So, what can I do for you today, young man?" the woman turned back to face Yorokobi, her long white lab coat whipping around her ankles. Really, she was dressed quite casually despite her hair style, hosting a simply pale blue tank top and a pair of blue jeans that had a rip appearing in the left knee.

Yorokobi quietly stepped in, and took in the neat lab in awe.

The last time I saw something this clean was when we moved back into our house in Lavaridge...

While he was looking at all this, though, Yorokobi had not watched where he was going, and nearly bumped into the woman. Fortunately, he stopped about a centimeter short and took a step back. He looked back up at the woman who had greeted him, and smiled back.

"Hi, my name is Yorokobi...Are you by any chance Professor..."

He searched around for the name in his head for a moment, then continued speaking.

"...Professor Aspen? Because I'm here to get a starter..."

The woman smiled slightly and gave a brief nod. "Yes, that would be me, but 'Professor Aspen' is a bit too formal for my tastes, if you wish feel free to just call me Morwen, that is my first name after all." Her cheery smile seemed to never leave her face.

A small Riolu suddenly appeared out from behind one of the couches and scampered over to the professor, squeaking happily as it jumped up onto her shoulder and nuzzled her cheek happily. "Ri rio riolu!"

"Would you happen to know what you wish to have as a partner?" Morwen asked, putting a hand up to stroke the Riolu along its side. "Or do you wish me to show you what I have available at the present moment? We do change them on occasion."

"Uh, OK..Morwen..." Yorokobi said, not liking it much calling an elder by their first name. Then again, he didn't really interact with adults.

No, those days are over! Stop thinking about them! he thought, shaking his head, then looked at the professor.

He was startled to see that a Riolu had appeared, and smiled at it before speaking again.

"May I see what Fire-types you have?" he said, tapping his foot softly to prevent him from bursting out informally.

"Of course," Morwen smiled cheerfully and turned around, looking at the opening in the bookcases that lead toward the back. "Kiana could you kindly fetch the fire type starters?"

As you wish, m'lady... a Froslass appeared out of the opening, turning her head toward a high shelf. Two Pokeballs floated off of it and suddenly sprang open, releasing the creatures they held inside.

The first to appear greatly resembled a lizard or salamander. It was orange in color with a beige belly and bright, emerald green eyes. "Charmander!" it chirped, waving its long tail, which was tipped with a burning flame.

The second Pokemon looked more like a feline, its large paws a beige color and the rest of its body, except for streaks down its side, a soft orange. It mewed happily, flicking its cup-like ears forward and wagging its tail, which was tipped with a burning ember as well.

Professor Aspen gestured to both of them in turn. "These are currently the two fires we have available," she said cheerfully. "Charmander from the Kanto region, and Firecub from this region right here, Lanorae." She smiled back at Yorokobi. "Do you have a liking in either of them?"

Yorokobi gazed in awe as a Frosslass had released two Pokemon from inside their Pokeballs.

One looked like a salamander, and had green eyes. Yorokobi bent down to look at it eye to eye.

Wow, it's...cute. he thought, patting its head, then turned to look at the other one.

The second he looked at the second Fire-type though, he knew he wanted it. It represented himeself perfectly, and even kind of looked like him.

"Fire...cub..." he muttered, hearing its name. He stroked the Firecub, then looked up at the Professor.

"I'd like this one please!" he said, standing.

"Of course..." Professor Aspen smiled and gently took the Firecub's Pokeball from the air, recalling it in a flash of bright red light. "Kiana, could you please get one of the packs?" she glanced at the Froslass that was hovering nearby.

Of course, m'lady... the ghost and ice Pokemon said smoothly, turning her head towards the back room. A blue pack coasted out, pausing before the professor, who gently dropped the Pokeball that contained the Firecub into it.

"This is you survival pack, it should at least get you to Purity Valley and you can restock there," she smiled slightly. "It basically contains the basic items you need in battle, or after, depending upon the situation. It also contains a PokeDex and the Lanorae region map, don't be afraid to use them, I know quite a few people don't even bother to open up the map..." She sighed slightly, shaking her head as she held the pack out for Yorokobi to take. "It's a shame really, I use mine all the time and I've lived in Lanorae for my entire life."

"THANKS PROFESSOR!!" he yelled just as the door shut behind him.
