General Information
Full Name:
Nicolas Valentine Sparrow -he prefers to be known by his surname only-
Age:
Nineteen
Gender:
Male
Height:
5'11"
Weight:
130 lbs.
Hair Color and Style:
Sparrow's hair is stark white in color, having earned him the nickname Shiro-chan in his youth, and tied back into a neat, spiky ponytail, leaving only his long bangs divided to the left over his eyes. When asked, one is always astonished to hear that Sparrow's hair color is indeed natural. -He despises hair dye xP -
Eye Color:
Another mistaken thought comes to mind when one glimpses the sanguine shade of Sparrow's eyes. Is he an albino? is a common question, which often drives Sparrow to the brink of frustration at the general ignorance of people. His natural eye color was a muddy brown, leading him to choose to wear red contacts, despite the protests from his mother.
Build:
Sparrow is of what you'd call average build; naturally muscled and slightly tanned from work, though often enough he's guilty of more than one binge on junk food. Decorating the right side of his jaw are two black stripe tattoos, and dangling from his ear on the same side is a simple hoop earring.
As most people would, Sparrow too has his problem areas; those mainly being his slightly stringy biceps. He's not too iffy about his physical build, though he is indeed a male, but instead he worries more about his hair and face than anything. Go and figure that one out.
Clothing:
Sparrow likes his wardrobe snug & comfortable. He disapproves of leather, chains, and excessive accessories that serve no purpose at all. His basic clothing includes nothing more than a simple mesh shirt undeneath a black web bustier that leaves his belly exposed, coupled with simple coal-colored work jeans and a belt to hold them up.
In place of shoes and gloves respectively, Sparrow wraps his feet and hands in thick white gauze for protection. The white Gemini mask on his face is to hide some serious scarring left over from an unfortunate incident a few years ago, which also has a hand in his inability to wear proper shoes.
Personality:
Sparrow is generally a fairly withdrawn person, though not afraid to speak his mind, should it come to that. He has a certain elegance about him, a trait he's adopted from his Pokemon Coordinator mother. He tends to be blunt with his opinions, and dislikes beating around the bush when important matters are at hand. Sparrow will often, unknowingly, make rude comments toward others, provoking them into anger. He is an adept battler, and often makes pinpointed, shrewd decisions, even if they include driving his Pokemon to the brink of exhaustion. Despite his harsh mannerisms, he treats his companions well, wanting only the best for them, even if his training methods seem a little cruel.
Despite seeming like an antisocial person, Sparrow has a fun-loving, almost giddy side (one that he often tries to bury in favor of appearing as what his father would have considered a proper Pokemon trainer). This attribute was hidden under many layers of repeated lessons by his father, who took care to teach his son to show little emotion, that the world was a cruel place where only the strong survived, and that Pokemon were below human intelligence. Having eventually been made to believe this, Sparrow hid his true personality underneath a cold, calculating shell, leaving out only one tendril of his former self, and that tendril was meant for his mother and the Pokemon he would often chase for hours in hopes of learning more of their behavior in the wild. His recklessness gets him into trouble on regular occasion, if not with humans, it's usually a pissed-off Nidoking he got too close to.
To define Sparrow in one word is impossible, but one major trait he's definitely renowned for; recklessness.
History:
Sparrow was born on the sixth day of November, in Hearthome City, Sinnoh, to a freshly married couple. He was named Nicolas by his father, while his mother gave him the middle name Valentine. Leonard insisted the infant was to be given his last name, Aylmer, claiming it was 'a good, strong name to grow up with'.
His mother, Isabella Cecilia Sparrow, was a well-known Pokemon Coordinator, who often participated in the contests held in their hometown, while his father, Leonard Roland Aylmer, chose his job to be a mine worker in Oreburgh, which caused him to be away from his family for long periods of time. During his absence, Isabella would take Sparrow with her to most of her rehearsals at the Contest hall, where many of her close friends admired the tiny boy and his unusual, but beautiful snowy hair. It was here that Sparrow first fell in love with Pokemon, at the young age of two. Elizabeth Smyth, a family friend, and Pokemon Breeder by trade, had recently obtained a baby Stunky, and brought it with her to the contest rehearsal. While his mother and her friend readied themselves, little Nicolas toddled around, following the playful Poison-type wherever it went. It was from here on out that Sparrow loved Poison-types over all others.
Having been born with white hair, the other children at the playground quickly nicknamed Sparrow 'Shiro-chan' (Whitey) due to this odd color. It quickly carried home with the excited five-year-old; the results of his father hearing about this were nearly catastrophic. His father refused to allow his son to be given such a name, and, despite furious objections from Isabella, Leonard took matters into his own hands, and the same night, dyed his young son's hair a murky brown color. This practice continued for eight whole years.
During his time at home, Leonard would take over teaching his son to become a Pokemon trainer. The only ugly side of his mindsets were the sturdy beliefs that Pokemon were created to be the tools of man, and that they were to be treated as nothing more than creatures of inferior intelligence. Isabella did her best to teach Nicolas his father was wrong, but increased time spent with his father soon embedded those same beliefs into her son.
When Sparrow was thirteen, word came that there had been a collapse in the mine Leonard had been working in, and the entire tunnel had collapsed upon him and his two work partners, Rhydon and Golem. The true reason was that, stubborn as he always was, Leonard had heeded none of the warning he'd been given, and that was his doom. While his mother wept over the loss of her husband, Sparrow found he felt worse for the Rhydon and Golem than his father.
At the age of fifteen, what became to be known simply as 'The Incident' occurred. During one of his many excursions to learn more about Pokemon, Sparrow came across a sleeping Arbok. Naturally, the feisty snake wasn't too happy about being woken, and unleashed a furious Sludge Bomb upon the offender. The acid burned as it spilled over his bare hands and feet, spraying over his face as well when he fell trying to get away from the hissing Cobra Pokemon.
After numerous visits to the doctor, Sparrow was informed he wasn't able to wear neither shoes nor gloves for the rest of his life. Substituting both with bandages, and wearing a white mask over the left side of his face to cover the massive amount of scarring.
Three years later, Sparrow bid his mother goodbye as he climbed aboard the ship that would bring him to the Lanorae Region, a newly discovered area with a whole new plethora of Pokemon to capture and observe.
"Sayonara!" Sparrow cried, waving to the continually shrinking speck that was his mother.
Turning to face the direction the boat was heading, Sparrow grinned widely under the half-mask.
"Lanorae, here I come."
